Oathmaster: He is not your Grace.
Abbot: Witnesses, I adjure you to speak; Is there any crime against this man? Is there any Cardinal sin to which this man has not confessed and received absolution, for which reason he should be denied the title of Knight of St. John of the Hospital… If so speak now or else remain forever silent on the matter.
Hearing no objection to the title let us begin. The assembly may be seated.
Hear the Word of the Lord Aiden Furey…
"No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one, And love the other; Or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve both God and mammon." Luke 16:13

4 To be read by an appointed friend of Lord Furey
First reading:
Hear now the words of Saint Louis IX, from a letter to his son:
My dearest son, my first instruction is that you should love your God with all your heart and all your strength. Without this there is no salvation. Keep yourself, my son, from everything that you know displeases God, that is to say, from every mortal sin. You should permit yourself to be tormented by every kind of martyrdom before you would allow yourself to commit a mortal sin.
If God has permitted you to have some trial, bear it willingly and with gratitude, considering that it has happened for your good and that perhaps you well deserved it. If God bestows upon you any kind of prosperity, thank Him humbly and see that you become no worse for it, either though vain pride or anything else, because you ought not to oppose God or offend Him in the matter of His gifts.
Abbot: Hear now these mighty words of Romance, from the Apostle Paul, from his first Letter to the Corinthians, chapter 13:
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all that I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. And so these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

The Second Reading:
Hear now the wisdom of Saint Augustine: God bestows more consideration on the purity of the intention with which our actions are performed than on the actions themselves. I will suggest a means whereby you can praise God all day long, if you wish. Whatever you do, do it well, and you have praised God. This is the business of our life: by labor and prayer to advance in the grace of God, till we come to that height of perfection in which, with clean hearts, we may behold God. God does not command impossibilities, but by commanding admonishes you do what you can and to pray for what you cannot, and aids you that you may be able.
Conquer yourself and the world lies at your feet.
Abbot: This is the First Psalm:
Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers. Not so the wicked!
They are like chaff that the wind blows away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.

The Third Reading:
Hear these words from Martin Luther, on the office of the soldier:
What men write about war, saying that it is a great plague, is all true. But they should also consider how great the plague is that war prevents. If people were good and wanted to keep peace, war would be the greatest plague on earth.
But what are you going to do about the fact that people will not keep the peace, but rob, steal, kill, outrage women and children, and take away property and honor? The small lack of peace called the sword must set a limit to this universal, worldwide lack of peace which would destroy
everyone. This is why God honors the sword so highly that he says that he himself has instituted it and does not want men to think that they have invented it. For the hand that wields this sword and kills with it is not man’s hand, but God’s; and it is not man, but God, who hangs, tortures, beheads, kills, and fights. All these are God’s works and judgments. To sum it up, we must, in thinking about a soldier’s office, not concentrate on the killing, burning, breaking, etc. This is what children with their limited and restricted vision see when they regard a doctor as a sawbones who amputates, but do not see that he does this only to save the whole body. So, too, we must look at the office of the soldier, with the eyes of an adult and see why this office behaves with such cruelly. When we do, we shall see that it is an office which, in itself, is godly and as needful and useful to the world as eating and drinking or any other work. There are some who abuse this office, and strike and kill people needlessly simply because they want to. But that is the fault of the persons, for where is there an office or a work or anything else so good that self-willed, wicked people do not abuse it? Ultimately, they cannot escape God’s judgment.
Abbot: Hear now the words of Our Lord, from the Gospel of Matthew, chapter five,
Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are they who hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
Blessed are they who are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and say all manner of evil against you falsely for my sake. Rejoice, and be glad: for great is your reward in heaven: For in this same way they persecuted the Prophets who were before you.
Having Heard these words I now ask you to give your answer to these questions:
"Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven.
Do you this day and in the presence of God, acknowledge the gifts given you in your baptism?
Furey: I do
Abbot: Do you renounce the devil and all his works and all his ways?
Furey: I do renounce them.
Abbot: Do you believe in God the Father almighty, in Jesus Christ is only Son our Lord, and in the Holy Spirit?
Furey: Yes I believe in the God, father, Son and Holy Spirit. One God in three persons
Abbot: Do you believe the Holy Bible is the inspired and infallible Word of God?
Furey: I do.

Abbot: Do you intend to read, learn and inwardly digest this Word, to worship and pray as regular habit and to amend your life to live faithfully in this word, to suffer all, even death rather than fall away from it.
Furey: I do so intend, by the grace of God. And so I will with the help of God. Amen.
Prayer:
Abbot: Lord God heavenly Father, this rite is not performed in empty ceremony but that what we do in this game world is echoed in the mundane world and in eternity as well. For the permanent identity given this man in this baptism informs his whole life, grant that what we do here will transcend the veil of earthy constructs and serve Your greater kingdom.
Blessing:
Abbot: The Lord bless you and keep you, the Lord make his face to smile on you and be gracious to you, the Lord look upon you with His favor and Give you His peace.
4 The Abbot will take the sword from the altar, the Oathmaster will take the vessel of water and pour it over the blade, the abbot will wipe the blade with the towel and stand before the candidate.
Abbot: This is your vow… Speak after me…
Here do I swear by mouth and hand to be a good and worthy Knight.
To be a Lamp of Chivalry unto the populace... To be ever courteous and reverent, To seek excellence in all my endeavors, To be courageous and faithful, To be always loyal and true, To temper justice with mercy,
To defend king and country, To be temperate and humble, To shelter the weak, To help the needy, To champion the right and uphold the good,
To teach what I know, To learn what I can, To be true to my Faith,
And to be faithful to my duties, All this in each area of my life.
So swear I, who kneels here before God and these witnesses, called among these my brothers and sisters and answering to the name of Aidan Marcus Aiken, also called Furey, Lord Kahn of Aethenu. Amen
4 The knight should be braced for what is to come... a slap across the face…
Abbot: This so you will remember it. (Slap) Let this be the last blow you take unanswered. Remember also, that it is meet, right ands salutary to turn the other cheek; this too can be an answer in this world. Now please rise to one knee…
Aiden Marcus Aiken, Lord Furey, Lord Khan of Aethenu… Having fulfilled the requirements, of this holy office, and being vouched for in character and deed, and having taken your Oath, I hereby create you Knight Minister in the Holy Order of the Hospitallers, (tap right shoulder) with the rank of Commander, the office and title of Field Marshal. (Tap left shoulder) Rise 1st Knight of the Order.
X
The Vestment of the Regalia
Abbot: I present you with the vestments of your profession,
Oathmaster: The sircoat is the knight’s pride; it heralds who he
is and what he is doing here. This white Cross of Malta proclaims him a knight in the order of St. John, The black field marks him a Hospitallers. The Green field proclaims the son of the kingdom of Aethenu, the red field proclaims his office as marshal of the list.
Oron: It is my honor to present you with your spurs, your girdle, your sword and shield. May they never be taken from you in disgrace.
Oathmaster: The Sword represents the Knight's right to dispense justice. The double edge of the blade ever reminds the Knight to temper justice with mercy. As the steel of the Sword must be tempered in fire and water, so must the soul of the Knight be tempered by adversity and compassion.
Abbot: It is never to be drawn in anger
Proxy: It is my honor to bestow on you the sash of the Aethenric, to ware proudly under the cross as the symbol of the Kingdom that owns you it’s genesis and it’s name.
Oathmaster: The Green field represents life, while the white shield represents Honor, the black Falcon is for strength. Aethenu’s crest is governed by the Griffin, a symbol of the noble and mystical power that surrounds us all.
Abbot: May this banner remind you of your true self and the gifts you bring to the world.
X
The conclusion of the Rite
4 The When the vestment is finished.
Abbot: The assembly will please rise
4 The Candles are extinguished.
Abbot: I present the Knight Lord Furey. Huzzah!

You are invited to join the celebration. Huzzah!
